Revegetation strategy for the city of Lille in urban resilience service

In a context of global warming, implying an increase in the frequency and intensity of heat waves, urban spaces are subject to an increase in their vulnerabilities.

Indeed, in a highly anthropized urban environment, as is the case for the city of Lille, vulnerabilities such as the effects of urban heat islands are all the more impacting. Faced with these issues, this study will seek, using cartographic tools, to establish models for detecting areas to be vegetated.

In this study, the diagnostic tools necessary to identify strategic areas to be planted in the Lille area were built in order to increase its capacity for urban resilience.

These strategic zones have been defined and the stage linked to the planting of trees and the greening of facades began this winter and will continue in the coming winter, winter being the ideal season for planting.

More than 500 planting pits have been dug during 2019.
