Project study ‘Ten Boomgaarde’ starts!

On February the 18th 2020, the city of Bruges and the VMM came together to talk about the tender of the ‘Ten boomgaarde’ investment along the Kerkebeek.

Various engineering offices presented their vision and approach. This week it was decided that engineering office Jonckheere will develop the layout of the project study. The project study became possible because of Nature Smart Cities (NSC) and will get a 60% subsidy from Europe.

Residential care center ‘Ten boomgaarde’ is located in a green area along the Kerkebeek river. The park around the center is the ideal location to start an investment in the context and timing of the NSC project. Engineering office ‘Jonckheere’ will not only develop the project study but will also supervise the implementation. The project study will be run together with the entire process study of the Kerkebeek and Kerkebeekpad locations, from the central station to the Rijselstraat. This process allows for a unique interaction between the two studies.

Green Infrastructure (GI)

The general purpose of the NSC project is to increase, promote and confirm GI as a sustainable solution for cities to adjust to climate change. The academic partners of the NSC project are working on a business model to show the economic added value of GI. ‘Ten Boomgaarde’ will convince other local authorities in Europe to implement GI in their cities.

The river contract

The context and the base of these activities is the River contract for the valley of the Kerkebeek. The measures within the River contract will be implemented in the project study. As seen in the layout of the river contract, the city of Bruges puts participation and communication with the citizens first. The success of the project ‘ Ten Boomgaarde’ is not possible without them.
